Henning Larsen Architects won Egedal Town Hall and Health Centre in New Zealand

Egedal Town Hall and Health Centre will be one of the first buildings in the new planned urban area around Egedal Station. The Town Hall and Health Centre form part of the same entity. The Health Centre comprises training facilities for children and adults as well as rehabilitation facilities.

The citizens of Egedal can look forward to improved and more consistent service in two years with the completion of the entirely new and highly energy-efficient Town Hall and Health Centre
says Mayor Willy Eliasen. The mayor and municipal council decided by unanimous vote that there was a clear winner of the competition.
Project Description:
The various activities of the building sprout up around the central square that leads through the large atrium. The town council hall, which is situated on the ground floor, can be opened up towards the central square – in connection with exhibitions, concerts or other special events.
In their statement, the jury emphasises Henning Larsen Architects’ proposal for “introducing a significant quality level for the future buildings in the town of Egedal”. And further: “The jury considers the daylight to be used in an effective way in the proposal. In particular, the design of the skylight in the atrium effectively lets the daylight flow into and around the building, without unnecessary solar energy impacting the indoor climate in warm periods.”
”In the project, we have worked with the Municpality’s vision for the new Town Hall – where care and service for the citizens and good working conditions for the employees have been essential focus areas. This contributes to ensuring a positive development of Egedal”, says CEO Mette Kynne Frandsen, Henning Larsen Architects. “We have designed an open and welcoming building with attractive outdoor spaces, the square in front of the Town Hall and the Town Hall garden.”
The Town Hall forms an important element in the development of the new urban district in Egedal. Therefore, the building is designed to stand out with a distinctive character in all development phases. Egedal Town Hall and Health Centre meets the requirements for low-energy class 2020 according to Danish building regulations and is expected to be inaugurated in the end of 2014.
